BLIND HOOKEY OR BANKER›======================››By John Foskett November 1996›››Blind Hookey also known as Banker is a card game where a player or players gambles upon the turn of a card in order to beat the bank, hence the name Blind Hookey. The game is basically a very simple gambling game where a pack of cards is cut into a number of piles and the player or players place a stake upon one or more of the piles. The bank (that is the person representing the bank) doubles the stakes and selects its own pile of cards after which it is simply a matter of revealing the cards to establish which player or players has beaten the bank. Any player whose card beats the bank collects their doubled stake but the stakes placed upon a loosing card is lost to the bank.››››THE PROGRAM: FOUR CARD BLIND HOOKEY››The program is based upon a four card version of the game where you gamble upon the turn of ONE card. You are given a #10 starting capital which is shown on screen for reference and also the highest amount you gain is shown on screen.››When the program is run, START must be pressed to begin after which the four cards are dealt. You are then prompted to select your chosen card by pressing a number key "1 to 4" and then you are prompted for the stake you wish to gamble upon your chosen card. You may gamble upto #99 at a time so long as you have enough capital to cover your stake. Your stake is entered using the numeric keys after which RETURN is pressed in the normal way. If your stake is greater than your current capital, the entry will be cleared and another entry requested. After entering your stake the computer doubles it, selects its own card, reveals your card and prompts you to press the SPACE-BAR to reveal the banks card. Upon pressing the SPACE-BAR, the banks card is revealed and if you have beaten the bank you win the doubled stake which is then added to you current capital. You are then promted to press either the SPACE-BAR again to reveal the remaining cards or to press ESCAPE to play again without revealing the remaining cards. If the SPACE-BAR was pressed to reveal the remaining cards then ESCAPE must be pressed to play again.››If, when your card is revealed, it proves to be a deuce (a two) then you automatically loose your stake without it being doubled because it is impossible to beat the bank with a deuce. You are then prompted to press the SPACE-BAR to reveal the three remaining cards or to press ESCAPE to play again as before.››Should you loose your stake and have no capital left, you will be prompted to press START to begin again with a renewed #10 capital.›
