		    pSCREEN MOVER II USER'S MANUALq

pDISCLAMERq

This software is supplied on an "as is" basis with no warranty,
so the author do not accept any responsibility for any consequences
(including damages made to your screen or computer and data loss) resulting
from the use of this program.

pSOME WORDS ON SHAREWAREq

Your are encouraged to spread this archive at much as possible,
provided that you don't modify anything or separate this text file from
the program. Thanks.

SCREEN MOVER 2.0 is a >SHAREWARE< program. This means that if you
use it, you have the moral obligation to send me some money to support my
work.

This version is a test version. There are no limitations compared
to the registred version, exepted a 10 seconds delay after installation.

So, if you don't want to add some more 10 seconds to your boot
time, and if you find SCREEN MOVER usefull, please register by sending me
a self adressed envelope, a floppy disk (3"5 DD or HD), 2 International
Reply Coupons (IRC) (outside Europe) or only one (inside Europe), and, of
course, some money in your own currency (Something like 40FF, 12DM, 5, or
any equivalent shoud be enough).

I'll send you your registred copy of SCREEN MOVER, without the
boring delay, as soon as possible.

Please support shareware ! This will encourage me to code other
programs for the Falcon.

pWHAT FOR ?q

In RGB & TV modes, the FALCON 030's display is not centered on the
screen. This is really a problem in Overscan. In those modes, on my TV, I
can't even see the leftmost menu entry. Furthermore, the 60 Hz (NTSC)
overscan modes are not correctly initialised. This lead to the fact that
even on mutisynch monitors, you can't see the bottom of the display.

SCREEN MOVER II allow you to move the FALCON display on the screen
and then to save your configuration, so that you have to do it only one time
for each video mode. This allow to correct those problems.

You can then forget SCREEN MOVER II. It will automaticaly center
your display.

pCOMPATIBILITYq

SCREEN MOVER II works only on computers with at least a 68020
processor and a FALCON compatible display. For instance, SM II supports
the ATARI FALCON 030 and the C-LAB MKII. I think there won't be any problem
with the C-LAB MKIII. But who knows...

SCREEN MOVER II should be useless with video modes extender
programs such as BLOWUP, SCREENBLASTER, MCS, VI,... Don't use them together.

SCREEN MOVER II allow you to save configurations only for existing
Falcon's RGB/TV video modes. There is no problem when SM II encounter a
mode it does not handle (VGA modes for example). In this case, it will
install itself and stay quiet till the mode change to an handled one. This
allow multisynch monitors users to switch between VGA & RGB during a session
without problems. If you try to configure SM II for a mode it does not
handle, you won't be able to save your configuration. However, SM II is
useless in VGA modes.

pINSTALLATIONq

The installation of SCREEN MOVER II is very staightforward. You just
have to copy the file SCR_MOVE.PRG from this archive into the AUTO folder of
your boot partition (or boot disk if you don't have a hard drive).

pUSAGEq

You can run SCREEN MOVER II from the AUTO folder or from the
desktop. The first time it is launch after a Reset or a boot, it install
itself in memory. You have to wait 10 seconds after the end of the
installation in the unregistred version. After that, SCREEN MOVER is
activated.

If this is the first time you run screen mover, you will notice
that the display doesn't seem to be more centred than before. And this is
true. SM II has to be configured for each video modes.

To do this, simply run SM II another time. You will see a dialog
box with three (or two) buttons. At this time, you just have to use the
arrows on the keyboard to move the display. When you think the screen is
centred, press <RETURN> or click on [Save config.] to save the configuration
for the current video mode. If a problem occurs, an alert box will warn you.
You can then quit SM II by hitting the <ESCAPE> key or clicking on the
[Quit] button. Et voila... Now, you just have to do this for each video
mode.

I said that sometime the dialog box has just 2 buttons. In fact,
when the video mode is not recognized, there is no [Save config.] button and
the <RETURN> key is not activated. In this case, you can just use the arrows
to move the display. The configuration will not be saved. So, you'll have
to center the screen each time you enter this video mode. This happen in VGA
and nonstandard modes (= created by a video mode extender).

There is another button I didn't talk about : [Undo]. This will
allow you to return to the state the display was in at the begining of the
configuration. Shortcut : <UNDO>.

pTIPSq

Don't change the name of the program. The configuration is saved
inside the executable. So if its name is modified, I have no way to find it.
I know I could have use the file selector to ask the user where the program
is, but I think this is not user friendly... (Mac rules)

The less colors the current video mode uses, the harder it is to
configure it. In general you won't have any problem to configure 16, 256 or
True colors modes. But in 2 or 4 colors, the display will jump, sometime
became crypted or even disapear during configuration. Remember you can
always use the <UNDO> key. Don't give up, after some time, you will find the
best config. I don't think this can damage your monitor or computer but I'm
not an expert on those problems... At least you can consider the fact that
I use SM II and didn't manage to destroy my FALCON or my monitor.

pTECHNICAL NOTESq

When installed, SM II consumes only >1126< bytes of memory
(including a 640 bytes table, the 256 bytes Basepage and only 230 bytes of
code). :-)

SM II is a XBIOS patch, so it should work even with games or demos,
but they don't use the system to change video modes in general. :-(

Do not center yourself the screen in your pograms after a call to
Vsetmode or Vsetscreen. Or do it in an absolute manner.

SM II follows the XBRA convention.

SM II installs a cookie to indicate it is resident. Its magic word
is 'JXSM' (for 'Joubert Xavier Screen Mover'). Its data is a pointer used
during configuration. Do not modify this value or the next attempt to
configure SM II may result in a crash !

SM II will not use one of your menu entries. ;-)

SM II won't slow your Falcon down. Well, as any patch, it consumes
some cycles each time you call an XBIOS function, and some more when this
call is Vsetmode or Vsetscreen... But this is really not noticeable.

SM II works fine under Multitos.

SM II is totally written with Devpac.

As I wanted to use shortcuts during configuration, I had to write my
own extended form_do() rout in ASM.

The resouces are handmade. They're embedded in the executable. This
avoid a boring RSC file.

pCONCLUSIONq

I hope you will find this little program usefull. If you have any
problem using SCREN MOVER II or find a bug to report, please contact me at
my address above (Sorry, I don't have any E-mail address anymore).

And don't forget to register !
