How
to Win
by Ryan Edwards

As my performance at the recent JagFest testified (winner of Worms and
Tempest 2000 tournaments), I am a bit of a gamer! But what can I share with
you fellow readers to allow you similar victories?
- Knowledge of
the game
I know reading the instruction manual is boring (and
increasingly irrelevant today as modern games have tutorial modes as
standard) but it really is vital if you want to get ahead. Knowing how to
perform the Glasgow kiss in Kasumi Ninja really can make a
difference...
- Watch your opponent
While you will, of course, be
concentrating on your own performance, a sly eye on how your opponent is
playing can enable you to adapt your gaming. Does he forget about the cube
on Tempest 2000 duel? Make sure you don't!
- Practice, practice,
practice
If at first you don't succeed, keep trying! This especially
makes a difference with games of depth or where you need to master special moves as
in BattleSphere or Primal Rage.
- Tunnel vision
I
know it sounds obvious but an easily distracted gamer is a bad gamer - it's
you, a steaming joypad and the game - everything else is a distraction! Therefore if you can prepare your gaming environment
before a serious session, usher non-gamers away, close the
curtains, dim the lights and turn up the volume!
I think I'm going to be in for some serious
competition, come JagFest 2004. Happy gaming!
