Review: Qix By Stephen Knox

Qix is another in a long line or arcade translations that came out for the Atari 800. Though this game looks like the arcade translation it appears most of the game was written in Basic vs Assembly. Movement is sluggish and the fill utility isn't very snappy. The color scheme takes from Centipede in that the colors come off very dull and low in luster.

From a game play standpoint all the arcade elements are there from the Qix(or multiples) monster, sparks, different speed drawings, etc… The bonus elements are there for splitting the screen and achieving game board coverage above the minimum. I enjoyed this game in the arcade but found the Atari 800 conversion to be a little lacking

Unlike Dig Dug where the initial release for the 800 was scrapped for the 5200 version, the Atari 800 only got the initial release. The version for the 5200 provides brighter graphics and faster game play more true to the original.
