**************** IMPORTANT ************************ ********** Read the whole text!! **************** ***************************************************** ATTENTION! EasyMiNT is Emailware, this means everyone who uses EasyMiNT has to send me an email, also if installation was successfull. All people who work with EasyMiNT without sending an email are working with an illegal copy of EasyMiNT. In tar archives freemint-sbin...rpm (mgw, gluestik,...) is missing, so that you not have to download a big BASIC.TAR again, you can download it from Sparemint homepage and install it with rpm manually. Type the following in your bash: cd /path/ rpm -ivh /path/freemint-sbin.1.15.12-1.m68kmint.rpm path ist the path where the freemint-sbin...rpm resides. Attention!! Root sector and Bootsector write protection from HDDriver must be turned off on ext2 partition!!! Note for version 1.20! Packages are now in TAR format, if you've already downloaded the tgz you have not to download the packages devel, net and libs again, because they have not changed, you can depack them with 'gunzip package.tgz' at the bash prompt! EasyMiNT Distribution comes with the following archives: The following archives are needed: EM_x_x.ZIP - EasyMiNT installation program EASYMINT.ZIP - Kernel, Drivers, etc. ROOTFS.TGZ - Root filesystem BASIC.TAR - Rudimentary MiNT system It's recommended to install the BASIC package, because 'Login' is only possible when this package is installed, but you can start the system by loading an AES (N.AES, XaAES). If you only install the above packages you will get some error messages during boot process, but you can ignore them so far. They will disappear when you install the STANDARD package, too. These packages are optional: STANDARD.TAR - Extended basic package NET.TAR - Network package DEVEL.TAR - Development package LIBS.TAR - Libraries package X11.TAR - X11 package You have to install the above packages in the above order, because they depending on each other, so when you want to install the development package you have to install net package first. Now follows the filetree of EasyMiNT: EASYMINT\ DEUTSCH\ EASYMINT.RSC LANGUAGE.LNG ENGLISH\ EASYMINT.RSC LANGUAGE.LNG PAKETE\ BASIC.LST DEVEL.LST LIBS.LST STANDARD.LST NET.LST X11.LST BASIC.TAR DEVEL.TAR LIBS.TAR STANDARD.TAR NET.TAR X11.TAR EASYMINT.PRG EASYMINT.RSC LANGUAGE.LNG UNZIP.TTP ROOTFS.TGZ EASYMINT.ZIP Only with this file/directory structure EasyMiNT will work correctly! If you don't want to download these fat .tgz packages you can download the single rpm packages from Sparemint Homepage and pack them together under their corresponding names. Which rpm packages are in which .tgz package, you can see in the .LST files you will find in EASYMINT\PAKETE, do not change these files! First of all, you should depack EM_x_x.ZIP archive, you will get a folder named EASYMINT. The packages EASYMINT.ZIP and ROOTFS.TGZ you have to copy directly to this folder, the other packages, basic, standard, net, devel, libs you have to copy to EASYMINT\PAKETE! If you want to install XaAES you have to download the corresponding package from Henk Robber's Homepage: http://members.ams.chello.nl/h.robbers/Home.html After that create a folder xaaes in folder easymint\ and copy the xaaesxxx.zip into this folder, everything else will be managed by EasyMiNT. If you want to use an english version of EasyMiNT, please copy RSC and Language file from folder ENGLISH to your EASYMINT\ directory. If your native language isn't english, it will be welcomed when you translate the LANGUAGE.TXT to your native language, so that EasyMiNT will become more multilingual.:) Finally some comments about the files and folders EasyMiNT creates during installation. First there's the folder EASYMINT\TMP, in this folder you will find various files, most important file is POSITION.TMP. If this file does not exist, EasyMiNT starts with the first installation step, if this file exists it starts with second step. Furthermore the drive letters of the bootdrive and the ext2 partition are stored in this file. The other files in EASYMINT\TMP are self explanatory and they can be safely deleted after installation. EasyMiNT will create also files with extension .CHK in the EASYMINT\TMP folder, if this files exists EasyMiNT knows which packages are already installed, this is important if you want to install more packages later. Have fun! Marc-Ant¢n Kehr December, 2001
