Harlequin folded as Atari cancelled it entire 8bit line…
Well nearly, the company had one last dying gasp -- we had one
Amiga Project underway, and when the company went down that project continued
for a while -- the Sound Express Audio Digitizer for the Amiga. I demonstrated
this hardware to Commodore UK, and was on the verge of getting a bundle deal
with the A500, when the programmer on the project was prosecuted for stealing
source code from his previous employer -- a manufacturer of Audio Digitizers!!!
Then Harlequin folded, ooh it was messy, everyone pointing and
calling each other names, and when the dust settled it was just a sad
happenstance that brought Harlequin to its knees.
Despite all these ups and downs Kevin and I decided to take a stab
at a little 16-bit title, Paintz, an original puzzle game for the ST. Now
Harlequin was dead, we had no money, so I borrowed from my Dad (I don’t think I
ever thanked him properly) and we carried on work on Paintz… It was almost
finished, we showed it to several publishers, but no one bit and so the project
died…
