- A VISCIFEROUSLY FANTASTIC DAY TO YOU! --------------------------------- Welcome to "ST NEWS" Volume 8 Issue 1, the first 1993 issue, the seventh undead one and the 34th in total. It was finished on March 25th 1993, and it's quite full with all kinds of stuff that we fervently hope you'll like enough to read. Have fun reading "ST NEWS", The editorial staff of the disk mag you'll find accompanying this file: Stefan Posthuma and Richard Karsmakers a.k.a. Digital Insanity of the Lost Boys and Cronos Warchild of the Quartermass Experiment - THE FEATURES.TOS FILE ------------------------------------------------- This issue's PROGRAMS folder is entirely contained in the FEATURES.TOS file, which is a so-called self-extracting archive (of the ZIP variety, to be more specific). To create the PROGRAMS folder, all you need to do is copy the FEATURES.TOS file to a disk with a lot of free space (or, for example, a hard disk) and click on it. It will decompress itself into the PROGRAMS folder with all the proper files in it. Using this method was necessary for all stuff to fit on the disk properly! - NOTE ABOUT COPYING ---------------------------------------------------- This issue of "ST NEWS" is, as has been the case for 33 issues before this one, Public Domain in the broadest sense of the word. This means that you can copy it to anyone you want and that, in case you're the owner of a Public Domain library, you are encouraged to include it in that. The disk format is: Tracks 0-79, 11 (!) sectors per track; in the old days we would have gone through great lengths to list the programs that can copy this sort of thing, etc. Not so this time (even though it would be worth while mentioning "Fastcopy Pro"). Whatever the case, you shouldn't hesitate to copy this issue to as many people as possible! In spite of the fact that we're Public Domain, which strictly taken does not entitle the authors to any rights (including financial ones) with the exception of the copyright, this does not mean that we wouldn't appreciate some money now and then. If memory serves me right, the last donation to either of the "ST NEWS" editorial staff members was made well over a dozen issues back in the dark realms of time when The Exceptions were still quite active, when Microdeal still did games and when The Carebears had only JUST started to whet our appetites for the still forthcoming megademo. So DO send us some dosh now and again - we would really appreciate it. The most boring "ST NEWS" column, "ST NEWS Colophon", contains the information you need to get some money to us successfully. Last in this section of the file, we'd like to express our opinion that Public Domain libraries who ask exorbitant prices for their disks are ALSO allowed to include this disk - if we wouldn't allow that we would cut in our own flesh. Just be sure, dear reader, that you switch to another Public Domain library if you find yourself paying other than disk and postage costs with a reasonable administrative fee! Do remember that there are *free* Public Domain libraries nowadays (Network PDL). In case all goes awry, you can even resort to reading our second-most boring column, where the ordering of "ST NEWS" back-issues is explained. - WHAT'S IN THE DARNED THING? ------------------------------------------- As usual, we've got a lot in this issue. We've summarized some of it here for those of you who'd just like to have a quick peek at what's on offer.
